Probate Court of Brooks County, Georgia

The Brooks County Probate Court in Brooks County, Georgia, is a Court of record with exclusive jurisdiction over the probate of wills, the administration of estates, the appointment of guardians and conservators for incapacitated adults and minor children, and commitments to involuntary evaluation for people with mental health, drug or alcohol issues. The Probate Court also issues both marriage and firearms licenses, administers oaths of office and performs a number of other administrative duties.

Our Mission

The Probate Court of Brooks County will serve the citizens in an effective, efficient, impartial and professional manner and will perform the duties assigned to it under the Constitution and laws of Georgia.

This Court does not handle traffic, election, vital records or game and fish law violation cases.  Brooks County State Court handles traffic cases and game and fish law violations.  Brooks County Board of Elections handle elections, and vital records are handled through the Brooks County Health Department.

We will be happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have about the services of this office or the procedures you must follow for a particular process. Please be advised, however, that state law prohibits our staff from rendering legal advice, restating the law or recommending specific ways to pursue legal action. If you have a problem involving the interpretation of the law, we suggest you contact an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Georgia.

The Judge of the Probate Court is a non-partisan constitutional officer elected by the voters of the county to serve four year terms.

Please Note:

  • Marriage Licenses and Weapons Carry Renewals are completed between 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • New Weapons Carry Applications are completed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday between the hours of 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
  • Customers need to arrive prior to 4:00 PM to allow sufficient time to conclude all business with the Court at or before 4:30 PM.  There will be no payments accepted after 4:00 PM.
